The Story of the Proud Belgian Kiwi

proofreader about proofalFrom my younger days in Belgium as a gymnast and tennis player, to my time spent in the halls of academia, to my travels teaching English – I love keeping my mind and body active. Now, with a growing family, and the desire to bring flexibility, Proofpal and proofreading is my next big passion!

Doesn’t that mean English was my second language? It sure does. I was brought up with a native tongue of Flemish. But not to worry, over the years I have gained an almost obsessive love of detail for the English language. As the old saying goes – ‘English is tricky but you can master it through tough thorough thought though’.

So why is proofreading necessary in today’s digital age where spell check and predictive text cushion all our grammatical trip-ups? Simple, younger generations have become highly dependent on this sort of technology for their writing – and it is starting to show in their work. It can go a little like this:

“Eye halve a spelling chequer
It came with my pea sea
It plainly marques four my revue
Miss steaks eye kin knot sea”

‘Slight’ exaggeration, I know. But it shows the limits of technology and the need for human learning and expertise. ProofPal can provide that all important expertise, as I have completed a Diploma in Proofreading and Book Editing (NZIBS – New Zealand Institute of Business Studies).

My mission is to bring quality copy editing and proofreading to help students, academics, corporates, anyone in fact, better articulate their ideas, knowledge and work.
